Getting a loaded truck out there is a straight run west on SR-126 from Valencia, through Castaic Junction and past Piru. Easy drive. Plenty of Santa Clarita roofers still won't cross the county line for it, which is fine by us.
The housing stock tells you what's on the roof. Around Central and Sespe there are pre-1950 homes carrying a few layers of history, plus a big block rebuilt after the '94 Northridge quake — those 1990s roofs are all coming due at once. Ranch work is its own animal: packing sheds and barns on the citrus and avocado ground mean flat or metal runs, not comp shingle.
Fire-country roofs under the Topatopa foothills
Does being this close to the hillsides change what I should put on?
It factors in. The Thomas Fire came to the edge of town in 2017 and those slopes are still rated high fire hazard, so we look hard at ember entry points — open eaves, ridge and valley details, debris in the gutters.
Who pulls the permit, Fillmore or the county?
The city. Fillmore is its own jurisdiction inside Ventura County, so a re-roof here never touches LA County. We handle the submittal and the inspections.
